2G, CWG, Adarsh,Denotifications and the list goes endless… I was fed up like most indians but didnt do anything except cursing those involved strongly in all bad words from all languages I know. But I knew that nothing is going to change just because I cursed them. But I didnt know what else can be done apart from cursing them and putting status messages on FB abt them. Most of the indians did the same. Nobody knew what they can do about it. Directionless!!!!!!!!!!
Then came the news of Egyptian,Tunisian and Arab world revolutions. They showed that if the people of the country come together and fight then they can bring change. Whether the change will be good or bad I am not concerned but definitely change can be brought. But everything needs a trigger . In case of arab world it was the suicide of a Tunisian which triggered the massive unrest and in case of India it was Anna’s fast. I am not comparing or expecting that kind of outburst in India but at least somthing has started. But anna’s fasting event gave the people like me a direction to do something in that regard within the realms of our ability and capacity. For the first time in my life I thought Facebook is of some worth.
Frankly speaking I did not know who was anna hazare before his fast unto death movement and I dont care too. And I assume most of the indians too did not know about him. The reason for the widespread support to Anna Hazare’s fast is not beacuse Anna is a great person or the Jan Lokpal Bill is the perfect and the only solution to end corruption rather because it provided a platform for all the indians to express the anger and mounting frustrations.
If we can take the taste of Police lathis for the sake of one cricket match ticket we can do much more useful things than that. Lets go to Freedom Park on Saturday and show our solidarity to the people doing fast unto death along with Anna. Lets come out of the stereotypical behaviour of thinking what will happen if I alone go there .Something we have done to beat the deaf eardrums of our shameless government. Lets beat it with more intensity.
Final Note:
Mr.Sibal said that a member from civil society cannot become the chairman of a committe which consists of ministers
Is it because it undermines the status, honour and respect of ministers??? If so then Mr.Sibal please cut the crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets go! It is the least we can do today.
All we have been doing till now is just cribbing about the state of corruption in our country. If I evade taxes, I’ll be put behind bars. If people like Raja, Kalmadi, Reddys etc misappropriate thousands of crores of public funds, all the laws can do is to make them resign. We need stronger laws. To take action. To seize their assets. To imprison them. To make people accountable for their actions. Jan Lok Pal bill is one such law. Lets support it while we can.
A nice post. I completely agree that we have to support the spirit behind the protests rather than the matter. It is also heartening to see that you acknowledge that the bill may not be perfect, because I believe it is far from perfect.
Very well expressed Kote….The bill may not be perfect as you rightly pointed out,but atleast it is a move in the right direction….
@Yaji;- Assuming the worst to come true may be a necessary premonition and precaution one has to critically ponder about, but leaving matters at rest (as they are now) will only make them more terrible……
Nice Kote !!
I appreciate…
